The Government announced recently that all outdoor markets would be allowed to reopen, and in fact food markets have been able to trade throughout the pandemic. We decided in mid-March to suspend trading as we were unclear how we might trade safely at that time.
We are pleased to now restart on Saturday 13 June 2020 with a limited number of local producers. Having ten producers will allow us to space out the stalls and leave enough space for social distancing – for stallholders, people queuing and people moving about on the Market Place.
We will have ample signage to remind people to keep their distance, to sanitise their hands and to be patient. We will review our practice after every market and make adjustments.
We will discourage people from entering the Market Place from all directions by taping off the roadside and we will have a number of volunteer stewards. We will encourage people coming to shop at the market to pre-order if possible, to have just one person at any stall, and to move around the market in a clockwise direction.
Stallholders present on Saturday will be: Askerton Castle Estate, Northumberland Honey Company, Noisette Catering, Hallsford Farm, Bluebell Organics, Bread and Roses Bakery, Hexham Country Markets (jam and marmalades only), Murphy’s Kitchen and North Shore Catering. If you wish to place an order, please check out contact details on their websites, or email the Market Manager for details (specific deadlines apply for different producers).
Ravensworth Grange and Slackhouse Farm will be providing an ‘order and collect’ service on Saturday morning. Please contact the Market Manager for details. Many stallholders not yet at the market sell their products online and will be happy to send their products out to you. Please check our producer page for details.
We have carried out a COVID-specific risk assessment which will be available here, once it has been officially signed off.
