North East England Farmers’ Markets (NEEFM) exists to support and promoting farmers’ markets in the region.
We aim:
i) to raise awareness and demand for locally produced food in season
ii) to support new and existing market operators
iii) to promote co-operation between markets
iv) to support new and wouldbe producers
v) to provide a ‘voice’ for North East farmers’ markets
At farmers’ markets – the market traders will only be selling their own produce and will be local to the market (generally based within 50 miles). Despite the name, traders do not have to be farmers – they may be bakers, brewers, confectioners, woodworkers, nurserymen, jam-makers – anything, in fact, as long as they have made what they are selling themselves, using local ingredients wherever possible.
We also feature some local food, community and artisan markets which do not have quite such strict rules – but we identify these.
